About Us & Current Site Updates

Welcome to Kayley's green blog!
My site has been created for the promotion of the public's awareness of global conditions. We believe that the first step to global awareness is global education, and we hope this site will encourage people to take action against the crisis of pollution, greenhouse effect, air quality and global warming in general. Each one of us is able to make at least one change to help this act.

Get To Know Earth: Plant Style!

This coming June is gardening month here at globalawareness.us! April showers bring June flowers, right? :P Well this time it's up to you to plant them. Planting definitely helps you appreciate Earth's gifts, and reminds you not to take your food for granted. Flowers, tomatoes, pumpkins, carrots, trees... there is plenty of choices when it comes to your garden. If you haven't ever planted one, you can follow these easy steps to start your own:
-1- Go to a local Wal-mart, Target, Home-Depot or practically any department store. Buy a packet or two of seeds for each plant you want to grow. You could also buy pre-grown seedlings, but that takes some of the fun out of it and is usually more expensive anyways.
-2- (If needed) Also purchase a few shovels or rakes to use if you don't have any already.

Spamming

Please preserve this website and do not leave spam comments. If this happens I will shut down all forms of commenting on this website, except it will still be available for members. Spam is immature and it's not okay here. Spam comments will not be published. Thank you.

Monthly Quiz

I've created a monthly quiz for you to figure out how much you help Earth. I may be a little late to create a new one each month, so don't get upset.
Thanks,
Kayley P.

Why we need to act!

Global warming is not a superstition. Its not a game or a scientific experiment. It is real, and it is happening this very second. You might not realize it, but...

- The glaciers and ice caps are melting. Scientists say that by the summer of 2040, the polar ice caps will be gone...
- We are losing our rain forests.Every MINUTE 50 acres of rain forest are cut, burned and destroyed!
- Every day an average American throws away almost 4 pounds of trash.
- Each year American factories send out over 3 million tons of toxic chemicals into our Earth. The air you're breathing right now could be high in toxic chemicals...But you wouldn't be able to tell.
-Every day mountains are being blown up and destroyed to create coal for energy in houses like yours. Homes and farms being lost, and lots of pollutions from explosions are being put in the air, just so YOU can turn on a light bulb.

10 Ways To Save Water

1) Take Shorter Showers- Taking shorter showers will save a lot of water. Look into getting a shower radio, and set a goal for how many songs it will take for you to take your shower. (Example: “I will take a shower and be done before three songs are over.”)

2) Check For Water Leaks- Water leaks may seem small, but they waste a ton of water. Check all your pipes for leaks, and if one is leaking, fix it immediately.

3) Don’t Flush Trash Down The Toilet- It may sound silly, but flushing items or even a lot of toilet paper down the toilet uses about 5 to 7 gallons more of water.

4) Turn Water Off While Brushing- While you are brushing those teeth, make sure the facet is not running. This will save a lot of water.

5) Use The Dishwasher- Washing dishes by hand may seem eco-friendly, but it actually uses more water then the dishwasher.

6) Install Water-saving Shower heads- These products are great if you want to save water!

Yay!

Aly S. has finished her fabulous article and it is now posted below. Hopefully this will really clear things up for a lot of you. Thanks, Aly!

What is Global Warming?

Now a days, we come across the word Global Warming almost everyday, whether it is on the national news or in the local newspaper. But what is this “Global Warming” everyone is talking about? Two worlds can describe Global Warming… Earth Killer. Global Warming is one of the biggest issues of our time. People might say Global Warming means “The earth is burning up.” But how is Global Warming created? Let’s start with what the earth would be like without Global Warming. The sun gives off solar beams to warm up the earth, since the sun is our warmth supply. When those solar beams hit the earth, they are supposed to bounce back into space.

Coming soon...I hope

Aly S. will be creating an article on what global warming is! Hopefully this will make things a lot clearer for you. It'll be here before you know it, I think! (hint, hint, Aly.)
Chao,
Kayley

Saving Energy: New article!

A new article and poll have been created on saving energy! Using less energy will release less greenhouse gases. And less greenhouse gases=less global warming! The previous poll and article on composting are still accessible for your use and convenience.
Yay,
Kayley P.
