Get To Know Earth: Plant Style!
This coming June is gardening month here at globalawareness.us! April showers bring June flowers, right? :P Well this time it's up to you to plant them. Planting definitely helps you appreciate Earth's gifts, and reminds you not to take your food for granted. Flowers, tomatoes, pumpkins, carrots, trees... there is plenty of choices when it comes to your garden. If you haven't ever planted one, you can follow these easy steps to start your own:
-1- Go to a local Wal-mart, Target, Home-Depot or practically any department store. Buy a packet or two of seeds for each plant you want to grow. You could also buy pre-grown seedlings, but that takes some of the fun out of it and is usually more expensive anyways.
-2- (If needed) Also purchase a few shovels or rakes to use if you don't have any already.
-3- Clear out a small area of your yard or neighborhood garden and make it yours. You could surround it by rocks or add a cute little bird feeder. Whatever you want to do. Weed it. When you finish that you may want to add some fresh soil from a compost bin to help plants with natural fertilizer.
-4- Follow the seed packet's directions and plant each seed, gently covering the tops in fresh soil or silt.
-5- Water generously.
-6- Continue weeding and watering until the plants grow. Enjoy!
*WARNING* If you value your soil, earth and local water supply, please do NOT use fertilizer. It may help your plants, but it also releases dangerous chemicals into the environment that hurt bugs, plants and humans. The chemicals could leak into a nearby stream or runoff and contaminate your local ponds and lakes. So please don't. Decomposed compost is a much better, healthier alternative.
Chao!
