Why we need to act!

Global warming is not a superstition. Its not a game or a scientific experiment. It is real, and it is happening this very second. You might not realize it, but...

- The glaciers and ice caps are melting. Scientists say that by the summer of 2040, the polar ice caps will be gone...
- We are losing our rain forests.Every MINUTE 50 acres of rain forest are cut, burned and destroyed!
- Every day an average American throws away almost 4 pounds of trash.
- Each year American factories send out over 3 million tons of toxic chemicals into our Earth. The air you're breathing right now could be high in toxic chemicals...But you wouldn't be able to tell.
-Every day mountains are being blown up and destroyed to create coal for energy in houses like yours. Homes and farms being lost, and lots of pollutions from explosions are being put in the air, just so YOU can turn on a light bulb.
-1.2 trillion gallons of untreated sewage, storm water, and waste are discharged into US waters every year. The US EPA has warned that sewage levels in rivers could be back to the insanely-polluted levels of the 1970s by 2016. And what do you think you're drinking?
-The Earth is heating up, and fast. Scientists say there's no denying it now. Global warming is real, and we are causing it.
- Each year, about 25% of beaches in the US are under advisories or are closed at least once because of extreme water pollution.

There are many more things that are wrong right now. The list goes on and on.

Now, we don't want you to think, "Oh, goodness! We're all gonna die! And there's nothing I can do to stop it!!" No. The whole point of this website is that you CAN help. Do what you know is right, and believe me, even if it seems small, it CAN help. It starts in your house. Most of these problems would be eliminated if more people:

-Used compact fluorescent bulbs
-Composted and recycled every day
-Didn't litter
-Made sure they didn't leave lights/televisions/computers on when they weren't using them
-Planted a few trees in their yard or neighborhood
-Possibly used renewable energy
-Drove more efficient cars
-Cut down on their heat and water uses
Who can help us with this? You, for starters. You can "help save the world" one step at a time. Good luck!
